Sydney is the state capital of New South Wales and the most populous city in Australia and Oceania located on Australia's east coast, the metropolis surrounds the world's largest natural harbour and sprawls about 70 km (43.5 mi) on its periphery towards the Blue Mountains to the west, Hawkesbury to the north and Macarthur to the south. Sydney is made up of 658 suburbs, 40 local government areas and 15 contiguous regions. Sydney is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city with a diverse population featuring a rich history, internationally-recognised tourist attractions and an exciting calendar of events. The City of Sydney is the local government authority responsible for the city centre and more than 30 suburbs within our boundaries.

Sydney is the largest city with a population of around 4 million. It has an enviable reputation as one of the world’s most beautiful and lies amid a seductive intermingling of land and sea. Sydney is a major global city and one of the most important cities for finance in the Asia-Pacific. Sydney is built around a huge harbour and hosts many tourist attractions as well as a number of beaches, bays and a couple of national parks. The city is also home to the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, two of the most iconic structures on this planet. Sydney's 4,757,083 residents sprawl over an area of more than 12,350km². 

Sydney is Australia’s biggest and most cosmopolitan city. It is an essential stop in any traveler’s itinerary. It’s also a superb introduction to Australia and New South Wales, the country’s most diverse state. Opened in 1906, Central station is the main hub of the city's rail network.

Sydney itself offers a mix of tours, attractions and events that allows visitors to discover this city. Surrounding the city is a wonderland of national parks, forests, mountains, river valleys and historic riverside towns.
